General context

UNIMINUTO’s technology challenges department recognized the need for data and application integration, but encountered difficulties with an enterprise service bus (ESB, local legacy) which SQDM helped address. The total cost of ownership (TCO) was high in software licenses, hardware, maintenance, developers and multiple administrators.
In addition, UNIMINUTO encountered challenges with the speed and complexity of developing integration between systems including SAP for finance, SAP SuccessFactors for human resources, and an Ellucian Banner student information system (SIS). That increased maintenance costs, affected agility in delivering critical solutions, and made it difficult to find qualified development and management specialists.

How Dell Boomi helped

With the implementation of SQDM, UNIMINUTO has replaced its legacy on-premise middleware with Boomi to expand the digital services provided to students and university staff, dramatically improving productivity in the development and management of integrations.

With Boomi, UNIMINUTO is boosting online admissions and course enrollment, replacing what had been cumbersome paper-based processes for prospects, students, faculty and staff. The university has also digitized payments, financial settlement and transcript access, saving manual labor and speeding cash flow. Integrations with a Moodle learning management system (LMS) and other applications moving forward are in process.

In total, SQDM has designed 47 Boomi integration points into approximately 12 cloud and on-premises applications, including online portals for students and teachers. Transaction processing times are 50% faster with Boomi and the integration implemented by SQDM, while data accuracy has increased, improving efficiency and collaboration across the institution.
