General context

Ad hoc integrations, point-to-point, and manual integrations could not support the vision of the Flinders University of a digital campus. Flinders chose Boomi for integration, data quality management, API management, and workflow automation on a single platform.

The University of Flinders, an academic and first-level research institution, provides education to more than 27,000 students. The visionary initiative of the University, “Making a Difference”, is backed by a five-year digital transformation strategy that includes moving up to 90% of its applications to the cloud.

Through a cloud approach first, Flinders aims to:

* Provide personalized and tailored experiences for your students and staff.

* Provide free access to education through the channels that students choose.

Technological challenges

Flinders needed to modernize his infrastructure to better support the educational needs of his students. This meant finding a native cloud integration platform that would allow it:

* Support the migration of your Student Management System and financial software from the facilities to the software as a service (SAAS).

* Quickly connect a wide range of cloud and local applications accessible through online, offline, and mobile channels.

* Ensure that the data is updated in all applications so you can accurately map the students’ trips.

Flinders is using the Boomi platform to enrich and optimize the experiences of students, from recruitment and incorporation to graduation and relations with ex-students. With Boomi, the University has been able to:

  • Reduce the time of integration development by at least 2 times.
  • Admit the rapid implementation of more than 130 integrations.
  • Optimize incorporation and reduce administrative expenses.
  • Establish an integration center of excellence.

How Dell Boomi helped

The native platform in the Boomi low code cloud allowed the integration team of six people from the university, which members did not have previous experience in integration – to quickly increase and successfully replace many integrations inherited with Boomi’s flexible connections.

Using Boomi, the team was able to rework and replicate 130 integrations between the Student Management System, its financial system, and other applications, including learning management systems, human resources, customer relationship management, and admissions.
